What is the fever-reducing principle behind cooling patches?
The part of a cooling patch that works is a polymer hydrogel (containing 80% water, menthol, borneol, etc.).
It uses physical principles to concentrate heat into the gel, and the rapid evaporation of water in the gel carries away the body's heat, thus achieving a localized cooling effect.
Composition of cooling patches

- Release layer
The release layer is the transparent protective layer of the PC release paper, a layer of polyester protective film or medical embossed plastic film attached to the surface of the patch.
It is peeled off before use and serves to prevent sticking and retain moisture. PC release paper is barrier to gases such as water, oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Its tear resistance and abrasion resistance are better than other water-soluble resins, and it is harmless to the human body.
- Polymer Gel Layer
The polymer gel layer (hydrogel) is the main body of the pediatric fever-reducing patch, containing ingredients such as menthol, para-hydroxybenzoic acid, water, polymeric substances, and glycerin. Using a hydrophilic polymer gel with excellent energy conversion capabilities as a carrier, the ingredients are incorporated into it, resulting in good skin penetration. The evaporation of water within the gel removes a significant amount of heat from the affected area, thus achieving a cooling effect. Furthermore, it is high in purity, free of any harmful impurities, and neutral in acidity. It has undergone skin sensitivity testing, is non-irritating to the skin, and has moderate viscosity and long-lasting adhesion.
- Non-woven fabric backing layer
Made of pharmaceutical-grade non-woven fabric, it is breathable and waterproof, increasing the product's breathability and anti-shedding properties.
