What is Super Absorbent Polymer?
SAP (super absorbent polymer) is a functional polymer material that can absorb hundreds of times its own weight. SAP has a unique body network structure, which gives it excellent water absorption capacity. In addition, SAP absorbs water quickly and has good water retention performance. Even if it is subjected to external forces, it is not easy to separate the absorbed water, and it has a certain elasticity. Therefore, SAP has been widely used in the field of sanitary products and has become one of the main raw materials for baby diapers and adult diapers.
Chemical composition of SAP
Sodium polyacrylate (chemical formula [−CH2−CH(CO2Na)−]n)
For hygiene products
Due to its excellent liquid absorption and locking properties, it has found very useful applications in products that are susceptible to moisture, such as:
-Diapers,
-Sanitary napkins
-Nursing pads
-Pet pads
In the use of sanitary products, the product parameters of SAP are different from those used in factories.
The important indicators are as follows,
-Absorption rate;
-Pressure absorption and retention capacity after centrifugation;
-Liquid permeability;
-Residual monomers.
For Ice Bags
Compared with ordinary ice packs, the ice packs produced by SAP have many advantages, such as soft texture, quick ice crystal formation, and prevention of water overflow.
Freshwater is directed at the individual sheets of ice packs to activate them; Super absorbent Polymer instantly starts absorbing the water and converting it to a Gel by placing them under fresh tap water; in about 20 minutes time it is seen to soak up enough water to form small cushion-shaped Ice Cubes. They are now ready for use by placing them in the freezer.
Important indicators are as follows:
-Hydration time;
-Price;
-Granular size.
For Sewage Treatment
For Wastewater Treatment
SAP is a cost-saving alternative to other bulk solidifies including Portland cement, kiln dust, corn cobs, sawdust or other commodity absorbents.
SAP's unique properties are its ability to absorb water or organic liquids, repel oils and resist bio-degradation while retaining liquids under pressure. This makes it an ideal stabilizing medium for landfill waste treatment.
Industrial waste streams vary in salinity, temperature and chemical composition, making it necessary to offer multiple grades of polymer to meet the economic and performance requirements of each industrial solidification project.
Advantages
-Chemically bonds with water without releasing liquids,
-Waste volumes are minimized due to typical expansion rates of less than 1%,
-Quickly mixes for increased production efficiency,
-Reduced waste transportation and disposal costs compared to other expansion agents.
